About Middlewich C.C.

Most of the club’s records were destroyed by fire after being submitted for archiving to London some years ago, and although officials have made strenuous attempts to research the missing years, many gaps exist in the history of the earlier days.
The club was founded circa 1882 and the present ground, named Haddon Field, was donated by the Seddon family, (leaders of the salt industry in mid-Cheshire), before being put in trust via. the Boddington family.

Cricket has been played continuously at Middlewich since the late 19th century, including throughout both world wars and Cheshire played regular fixtures on the ground both before 1939 and after 1945.

Until the 1960’s, Middlewich was well known for its Cricket Week, which used to attract touring teams from throughout the country every August.

During the `1940’s and 1950’s, three Middlewich players made minor counties appearances for Cheshire, namely Alec Pimlott in 1948/49, wicket keeper Richie Robinson 1950/51and Jim Hall in 1951/52.

The Youth policy at Middlewich is, and has been for many years, been an integral part of the club. The club operates levels at U9, U11, U13, U15 and U18. The club also encourages local schools to participate in a yearly gala, the St. Mary’s cup as well as kwik cricket competitions for mid-Cheshire mixed teams with the help of the borough council.

Middlewich were members of the Manchester association from 1952 until 1977, joining the Mellor Braggins Cheshire league in 1978. The club spent recent years in the Murray Smith county league before returning to the Mellor Braggins first division last year.

In 2002 the first XI won the Quinn Thomas Cheshire shield but narrowly missed out on rejoining the Murray Smith County league after an exlellent season.

The Club regained it's status in the 2004 season and is looking forward to a strong challenge for promotion from the County league Div2 in 2007

The club operate a 1st, 2nd & 3rd XI at Senior level but have a policy of fast tracking promising juniors through the ranks.

The ground has been greatly improved over the years, with the addition of an attractive brick score box, 4 site screens, Umpires shed, Garage and more recently new covers have been acquired. We have also built a new double bay outdoor practice net that is used by all levels of age group. The club also boasts one of the best squares in the region.
